Air Fryer Garlic Parmesan Wings

I have to say, these might be the best air fryer garlic parmesan wings recipe, yet. Really. There is so much flavor, crunchy, buttery, parmesan-y goodness that I just can’t get enough of. Which is why I am so excited to share this recipe with you! Perfect for lunch or dinner with a side salad, appetizer or game-day eats, I guarantee these garlic parmesan air fryer wings will be a hit!

Funnily, I just joined the air fryer train–I’m years late, I know–and wondering why it took so long for me to buy one, because WOW. I can officially say I am obsessed with this gadget, so be prepared for a lot more air fryer recipes.

I did some heavy research before purchasing an air fryer and ended up purchasing the Cosori Air Fryer Max XL and love it. This is not an ad for the appliance, rather sharing the model I use to make this recipe.

Why You Need To Make These Air Fryer Chicken Wings

  • Flavor – These garlic parmesan wings do not skip on flavor; a perfect balance of salty and savory.
  • Foolproof – Making these chicken wings in an air fryer yields that super crispy texture we all want wings to have.
  • Better than Takeout – You know those Wingstop garlic parmesan wings we all love? Well, you can emulate that same thing at home, and honestly, I think this recipe tastes better (but I could be biased).

Tools You’ll Need

Ingredients to Make Garlic Parmesan Wings

  • Chicken Wings
  • Salted Butter
  • Garlic
  • Flat Leaf Parsley
  • Parmigiano Reggiano aka Parmesan Cheese
  • Kosher Salt
  • Freshly Cracked Pepper
  • Garlic Powder
  • Avocado Oil Spray (for air fryer basket)

How to Make Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings in an Air Fryer

What I love about making chicken wings in an air fryer is the ease in cooking and it is also a major timesaver–can’t beat that! With just a few steps, You’ll be on your way finger-licking-good wings. These wings are so good, you just might want to double the recipe.

  • Start by patting the chicken wings dry. Extra moisture can inhibit the extra crispy skin you are aiming for.
  • Season both sides of wings with kosher salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  • Spray air fryer basket and add wings in a single layer.
  • Cook using the below 3-step temperature process.
  • Remove wings from air fryer and place in a mixing bowl. Top with melted butter and garlic. Mix. Add fresh chopped parsley. Mix. Top with freshly ground parmesan. Mix again. enjoy!

How Long Should You Air Fry Chicken Wings?

My air fryer is a 5.8 quart and can hold up to 1½ pounds of chicken wings in a single layer. I, then, have a three-step cooking process for garlic parmesan wings in 30 minutes:

  • Cook wings at 360°F for 25 minutes, flipping at the 13 minute mark.
  • Once that cycle completes, flip the wings again and cook at 400°F for 3 minutes.
  • Check the wings for texture. If skin can use a little more crunch, I cook them again at 400°F for 2 minutes.

That Oh-So-Good Garlic Parmesan Sauce

Oh yeah that good-good sauce. Before we jump into it, a couple of things to keep in mind: always use fresh garlic to mince. Don’t go for jarred minced garlic as it will impart an unsavory flavor to wings. When using parmesan, resist the bottled version. Go for the wedges found in the cheese section of your grocer. You can achieve those same crumbles by tossing parmesan in a mini food processor. Okay, let’s get down to the how-to:

  • In a small saucepan over low heat, add butter. Once butter melts, add minced garlic.
  • Cook low and slow; watch the mixture carefully so as to not let garlic brown. This step is simply to infuse butter with garlic flavor. Cook for 2 minutes, then set aside.
  • Meanwhile, cut fresh parmesan into small cubes and toss into a mini food processor. Set aside.
  • Finely chop parsley and set aside.
  • Once wings are ready. Place in a mixing bowl.
  • Top with melted butter and garlic mixture. Mix. Add fresh chopped parsley. Mix. Top with freshly ground parmesan. Mix again. enjoy!

Tips For Making the Best Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings

  • Aim for chicken wings that are similar in size. This will ensure even cooking.
  • Go for wings with a little more heft. Smaller wings tend to dry out. We want tender, juicy wings, folks.
  • Add freshly ground parmesan after mixing wings with garlic, butter and parsley. Adding parmesan prematurely will cause parmesan to absorb butter and clump at the bottom of the mixing bowl.
  • Speaking of parmesan, be sure to go for the good stuff. Opt for wedges wrapped in saran wrap at your local grocer and grate it at home using a food processor. Fresh parmesan is a game-changer. I promise.
  • Don’t wait to dive in; these wings are best eaten–and have the most crunch– just after tossed, while still warm.
